Kathleen
"Kassie" Patton, the principal
of the University of Illinois
Laboratory High School in Urbana,
was surprised May 25, 2006, with
the 2006 Illinois Journalism Education
Association Administrator of
the Year award. Dave Porreca, the
adviser of the school's print
newspaper and online version, nominated
Patton for the award in
recognition of her unwavering support
of scholastic journalism.
Sally Turner, IJEA executive director,
presented the award to Patton
at the school's annual awards ceremony
at the University of Illinois
Union. Patton received the award
again in June at IJEA's All-State
banquet.
