2006 Illinois Administrator of the Year: Kassie Patton, University High School, Urbana

Kathleen "Kassie" Patton, the principal of the University of Illinois
Laboratory High School in Urbana, was surprised May 25, 2006, with
the 2006 Illinois Journalism Education Association Administrator of
the Year award. Dave Porreca, the adviser of the school's print
newspaper and online version, nominated Patton for the award in
recognition of her unwavering support of scholastic journalism.
Sally Turner, IJEA executive director, presented the award to Patton
at the school's annual awards ceremony at the University of Illinois
Union. Patton received the award again in June at IJEA's All-State
banquet.

Sally Turner, IJEA E. Secretary, congratulates Kassie Patton, director/principal of the University Laboratory High School in Urbana, on her award as IJEA's 2006 "Administrator of the Year." This award is given to an administrator who demonstrates a commitment to the First Amendment, to a free scholastic press or to his or her students and adviser.
