Dana Ewell Scholarship

Dana Ewell Scholarship

Scholarship to be used for J Conference Sept. 21.

Five Dana Ewell Memorial Scholarships will be given this year to pay registration costs of attending the J Conference for Advisers held Sept. 21, 2007, at Eastern Illinois University.

The scholarships will pay the registration fee for the one-day conference, a series of workshops on topics such as staffing, budgets, photography, design and the law. The sessions can apply to any media field — newspaper, yearbook, magazine, broadcast or online publishing.

The Dana Ewell Memorial Scholarship was established by the IJEA to honor the memory of Dana Ewell, a longtime IJEA board member, the executive director of the Illinois State High School Press Association and a University of Illinois journalism professor. Dana, 55, died Jan. 4, 2003, after an eight-month battle against leukemia.

Advisers must be members of the Illinois Journalism Education Association to be considered for the scholarship. Previous winners may reapply.

Applicants must complete the Dana Ewell Memorial Scholarship application form and send it to IJEA headquarters by Aug. 13, 2007.
Please download this entry form (in .pdf form). Five winners will be drawn from the entries received.

For more information contact Sally Turner, IJEA executive director, at seturner@eiu.edu or (217) 581-7867.
