All State Luncheon

Teach-In August 5, 2008
Stan Zoller, an IJEA board member from Rolling Meadows High School, talks with Donna Hornik from Plainfield South High School between sessions of the Teach-In Tuesday, Aug, 5, 2008, at the Downtown Marriott in Chicago. Hornik was a participant at the day-long event, which focused on law and ethics, media writing and reporting, multimedia story-telling and challenges facing high school advisers. Zoller gave a presentation on diversity challenges, Sally Turner, IJEA executive director, discussed how to develop students into leaders, and IJEA treasurer Susan Tantillo discussed resources available to high school advisers. Five advisers from the Chicago area participated in the event, including IJEA board member John Gonczy. Other participants were Nicole Hite of Dwight D. Eisenhower High School, Rachel Cieslak of Elk Grove High School and Kimberley Hunt of St. Scholastica Academy in Chicago.


Intergenerational Award Winner
Katie Richards of Rochester High School and her adviser Ann Rowley were honored June 14 in Springfield at the All-State luncheon for Richards’ winning entry for the 2008 Illinois Intergenerational Journalism Award, yearbook division, co-sponsored by the IJEA  and the Intergenerational Initiative. It was the first award of its kind given.
